After an accidental teaser tweet that was quickly deleted, Yen Press has officially unveiled the cover of Lord of Mysteries Vol. 1.
To celebrate, the publisher released a video on X (formerly Twitter), revealing the cover of Lord of Mysteries Vol. 1: The Clown Part I. The artwork mirrors the original Chinese edition, featuring dramatic swaths of black and red, towering buildings, and a lone silhouetted figure raising his arm skyward. Fans are captivated by the striking design.
Written by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving, the hit novel spans 1,394 chapters across eight volumes on the Chinese platform Qidian. The English edition’s first volume clocks in at a hefty 612 pages.
Yen Press’s synopsis reads as such:
Through the storm of steam and machinery, who can achieve the extraordinary? In the mist of history and darkness, who whispers to me? When I woke up from the haze of mystery, I found myself in a world of guns, cannons, giant ships, airships, difference engines; potions, divination, curses, hanged men, and sealed artifacts. But the light still shines between it all, and the mystery is never more than two steps away. This is the legend of the Fool.
Lord of Mysteries has also inspired a donghua, slated for release this summer, with B.C. May Pictures producing and Xiong Ke directing. The story was also adapted into a manhua, which received an updated art re-release in January 2025.
Priced at $20 USD / $26 CAD, Lord of Mysteries marks Yen Press’s first foray into Chinese novels. Volume 1 hits shelves on June 10 and is rated for teens.
