One of the most iconic manga of all time is making its WEBTOON debut. Fullmetal Alchemist, the critically acclaimed series by Hiromu Arakawa, will officially launch on the English-language WEBTOON platform on May 7, now fully colored and reformatted for the platform’s signature vertical scroll.

First serialized in Monthly Shōnen Gangan from 2001 to 2010, Fullmetal Alchemist follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric on a harrowing journey after a forbidden alchemical ritual to bring their mother back goes horribly wrong. In the process, Edward loses an arm and a leg, and Alphonse’s soul becomes bound to a suit of armor. Their desperate search for the fabled Philosopher’s Stone takes them across a richly imagined world filled with military intrigue, moral quandaries, and dark secrets about the very nature of alchemy.

The new WEBTOON release marks the first time the entire series will be presented in full color and in a scroll-based format, making it accessible to digital-native readers and longtime fans alike.

Fullmetal Alchemist is the kind of story that stays with you for life—whether you’ve read the original manga, watched the anime, or found it through its passionate global fandom,” said Yongsoo Kim, Head of Global WEBTOON at WEBTOON Entertainment. “Bringing this iconic series to WEBTOON audiences gives both longtime fans and first-timers a new way to enjoy this story.”

In addition to Fullmetal Alchemist, From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman—adapted from the popular light novel and following its recent anime premiere on Prime Video—will also launch on WEBTOON in English for the first time. The manga will be presented in full color and vertically reformatted to bring the action-packed fantasy series to life for global readers.

This double release continues WEBTOON’s expansion into globally recognized IP, following successful partnerships with DC Comics, Archie Comics, Ubisoft, and musical artists under HYBE such as BTS, TXT, and ENHYPEN.

With Fullmetal Alchemist and From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman joining WEBTOON’s growing library of classics and original series, the platform further solidifies its role as a digital destination for both emerging creators and beloved legacy content.

Fullmetal Alchemist launches on May 7 on WEBTOON’s English-language platform, with episodes available to read for free. From Old Country Bumpkin to Masterswordsman will be available to read on WEBTOON from May 2 at 5:00 PM, Pacific.
