Ballerina is a spinoff of the John Wick franchise, set between the third and fourth films. The story follows Eve Macarro (played by Ana de Armas), a ballerina-assassin trained at the Ruska Roma Ballet School. Sooyoung will portray Katla Park, the daughter of Il Seong, a colleague of the Ruska Roma. According to Soompi, Eve’s first field mission will be to protect Katla at the lavish Minus Eleven Club.

Choi Soo-young, mononymously known as Sooyoung, joined Girls’ Generation in 2007, a K-Pop group that became one of the most popular girl groups globally. In addition to her singing career, Sooyoung revealed that she had been passionate about acting even before her idol debut, but faced over seventy rejections during auditions in her pre-debut years. Despite this, she persevered and starred in several acclaimed K-Dramas, including My Spring Days (2014) and So I Married the Anti-fan (2021). Her most recent role was in the 2023 drama Not Others, based on a webtoon of the same name serialized on Kakao Webtoon from 2019 to 2022. In the series, she portrays Kim Jinhee, a cool-headed daughter navigating life with her childish mother.

Ballerina is set to hit theaters on June 6, 2025. In the meantime, fans of Girls’ Generation and Sooyoung can catch her in the K-Drama Not Others, now streaming on Viki.
