Her Tale of Shim Chong, a poignant sapphic retelling of the classic Korean folktale, is now fully available to read on WEBTOON. The entire series dropped on the platform on March 27, beginning with “Episode 0 – Peach Blossom” and concluding with “Side Story 3 – Lovers’ Quarrel (2).”
WEBTOON describes the story as follows:
Based on a Korean folktale, two very different women find themselves making the same wish—to leave this world behind. One is Shim Chong, a young beggar supporting herself and her blind father through the kindness of others. The other is the bride-to-be of the elderly Chancellor Jang, sold off to him for her family’s benefit. When Shim Chong rescues the new bride from a river, their meeting sparks both love and hidden motives. But can the two women forge a path forward in a world designed for men?
Written by Seri and illustrated by Biwan, Her Tale of Shim Chong originally ran on Comico from September 2017 to June 2020. The series was part of the first wave of titles to launch with the Pocket Comics app in 2021. It is also available on Tappytoon and Tapas.
