Up-and-coming Korean BL publisher Publang delighted fans at SakuraCon with four new digital licenses—and its first-ever print release.
During a special panel hosted by co-founder Coryun, Publang celebrated its one-year anniversary by sharing how it started in March 2024 as a manhwa localization agency. The company was born from Coryun’s passion for bringing faithful translations of her favorite BL manhwa to English-speaking readers. Publang has since pivoted to licensing and localizing BL webnovels, building a growing platform for digital releases.
Cheon Choo Sae In
Written by Ranmaru, this historical BL novel comes with a three-pepper spice rating and features a “god-like top x ordinary bottom” pairing, complete with a dramatic age gap. Touted for its “strong plot and strong romance,” the story has already been adapted into a manhwa—though the comic has yet to be released in English.
Beware the Ides of March
This mostly fluffy BL novel by Stan follows Park Mokhwa, an ex-convict who’s trying to start over as a florist. But his peaceful life is shaken when Kim Nakwon, a corrupt cop, arrives on the scene. Convinced Mokhwa holds the key to cracking a major case, Nakwon refuses to back down—though Mokhwa’s lips remain sealed. The manhwa adaptation was licensed by Lezhin in July 2022 and is currently in its fourth season.
Paws and Claws
Marinecode’s spicy shifter romance introduces Gyeon Heeseong, a dog shifter forced into working as a drug runner after being abandoned by his pack. Things take a wild turn when he’s rescued—while in his white puppy form—by a doting wolf shifter named Yoon Chi-young. Now, Heeseong must find a way to transform back or risk being a pampered pup forever. Lezhin is also licensing the adorable manhwa adaptation.
Ebony Castle
This angst-filled novel by Seonmonhwa is set in the nameverse genre, where soulmates’ names are imprinted on their skin. It follows pianist Dohwa “Eden” Yeon, who has Tristan Locke’s name etched into his skin. But when Eden finally finds Tristan, he discovers a devastating truth—Tristan’s skin is bare, and he wants nothing to do with Eden. Known for its “devastatingly beautiful prose” and high spice, Ebony Castle is a must-read for fans of emotional slow burns. The manhwa adaptation, recently licensed by Manta, currently has 13 episodes available.
Define the Relationship Print License
Publang also thrilled fans by announcing its first print license: the wildly popular omegaverse series Define the Relationship. Written by Flona, the webnovel will be published as a two-volume hardcover set, which includes the full main story and two side stories. Pre-orders begin in early May, and exclusive preorder bonuses will be offered to early buyers and readers on Publang’s website.
