The donghua adaptation of Lord of the Mysteries looks stellar.
The official Lord of the Mysteries donghua social media account released its third trailer. The trailer shows protagonist Zhou Mingrui waking up in a Victorian-era alternate world and diving into a murder mystery he must solve. It highlights supernatural and steampunk elements, featuring monsters, rituals, and magic. While an exact release date remains unannounced, the donghua is slated for summer 2025.
B.C. May Pictures (The King’s Avatar) is animating Lord of the Mysteries, planning at least five seasons with 30-minute episodes. The team screened the first episode in August 2024, adapting the novel’s first 14 chapters. Director Xiong Ke, known for Mo Dao Zu Shi, is leading the project.
A manhua adaptation began serialization on Bilibili Manhua on January 21, 2020, but went on hiatus in August 2020. The team remade it for a more faithful adaptation, relaunching on Qidian in January.
Written by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving, Yen Press has announced the official English license of Lord of Mysteries and describes the synopsis as below:
Through the storm of steam and machinery, who can achieve the extraordinary? In the mist of history and darkness, who whispers to me? When I woke up from the haze of mystery, I found myself in a world of guns, cannons, giant ships, airships, difference engines; potions, divination, curses, hanged men, and sealed artifacts. But the light still shines between it all, and the mystery is never more than two steps away. This is the legend of the Fool.
This marks Yen Press’s first venture into Chinese novels. The first volume, set to release on June 10, 2025, boasts a whopping 608 pages. On Qidian, Lord of the Mysteries spans 1,394 chapters across eight volumes, including 36 chapters for the side story and a two-chapter epilogue.
Currently, there is no news of an international release for the donghua.
