The live-action adaptation of the webcomic Secret Relationships debuted on February 26, launching its first two episodes on consecutive days. The drama stars WEi‘s Kim Junseo as Daon, Cha Sunhyung as Sunghyun, Cha Jungwoo as Soohyun, and Kim Ho Young as Jaemin. Spanning 12 episodes at approximately 30 minutes each, the series is directed by Yang Kyunghee and marks the first BL drama co-produced by Playlist Studio, Kakao Entertainment, and Fuji Television. Following its premiere, Secret Relationships quickly climbed to the top of Watcha’s popular watch list.
The adaptation’s success has also led to a webnovel expansion, offering deeper insights into character monologues, additional dialogues, and new material absent from the webcomic. The webnovel launched on Kakao Page on February 14, though an English translation has yet to be announced.
The drama’s soundtrack features “True Love” by BTOB’s Lee Changsub and “Careless I Love You” by Paul Blanco, both of which can be heard below:
Secret Relationships follows Daon, whose frugal lifestyle irritates his coworker Sunghyun—who seems to despise him. However, an unexpected incident brings them closer, forcing Daon to navigate his feelings for Sunghyun while also dealing with unresolved emotions for his former tutor, Jaemin. The webcomic has amassed over 1.1 million views and nearly 150,000 likes.
According to Korean Herald, this may be the beginning of more adaptations of Kakao Entertainment works as an official stated, “As successful cases of content based on Kakao Entertainment’s story IP continue to accumulate, collaborations with competitive production companies both domestically and internationally are increasing. This year, we will continue to create various opportunities to showcase the excellence of Kakao Entertainment’s IP.”
