On February 16, TOKYOPOP announced a wide range of new licenses, including a popular fantasy webcomic.
The publisher confirmed that it had licensed Eternal Covenant by Haegi, the creator of The Sweetest Man. The series will join TOKYOPOP’s LoveLove imprint, which features shoujo, josei, girls’ love, and boys’ love stories. This marks TOKYOPOP’s second BL manhwa license, following the office-themed On or Off. If the manhwa adaptation of the animation Hyperventilation is included, it becomes their third. The release date for Eternal Covenant has not yet been announced.
Reception to the announcement has been extremely positive with many fans excited that their favorite series will now be in print. TOKYOPOP describes Eternal Covenant as below:
Ian Gloucester has always believed he was cursed to live as a destructive monster. He carried out his days in faithful servitude to the savior who plucked him from the depths of hell, Cardinal Brixton. But, one day, a mysterious man named Soleite Winkler tells him that this power is actually…magic. As a result, Ian begins to question everything he’s ever known. The two reluctantly form an alliance to expose the corruption that lies within the Kingdom. Despite his loyalty to the strict and religious Cardinal, Ian is drawn to Sol and slowly begins to fall for him.
Because TOKYOPOP’s license announcements are so rare, the publisher ensures they make a significant impact when they do occur. Just a few days ago, TOKYOPOP revealed it had licensed the Alien Stage artbook, marking the web animation’s first entry into the English-speaking market.
If you’re too impatient to wait for the print release, you can read Eternal Covenant online through Tappytoon, which offers two complete seasons totaling 107 episodes. The series is currently on hiatus, with no announcement yet regarding the release of Season 3.
