BLACKPINK‘s Lisa is Born Again into five alter-egos in a comic book.
Lisa is expanding her career. She began as a rapper/singer in the global sensation BLACKPINK, then debuted as a solo artist, made her acting debut in the third season of White Lotus, and now, according to Variety, she is launching her own comic book series, ALTER-EGO: The OFFICIAL COMIC, and company, Lalisa Comics, in partnership with Zero Entertainment.
The comic book, comprising 56 pages, tells a story of “transformation, courage, and unity” and features the five alter-egos from Lisa’s album: Roxi, Vixi, Kiki, Speedi, and Sunni. MINOMIYABI, who also illustrated BoyWithUke‘s comic book series Dreamscapes, will bring the comic to life.
Josh Frankel, CEO of Zero Entertainment, explained that the creative process behind ALTER-EGO differed from traditional comic book writing. Typically, the company works with the artist and their team to develop the story before sending it to a writer to add dialogue and refine the narrative.
“Since the story was already embedded in the album [‘ALTER EGO’], our role was to expand and elevate that narrative, shaping it into a compelling 56-page comic,” Frankel said. “Rather than building from scratch, we focused on deepening the existing themes and translating them into a fully realized visual experience.”
Lisa debuted as a rapper and singer in BLACKPINK in August 2016 and later established herself as a solo artist with the release of Lalisa. The titular track became the most-viewed video by a soloist, surpassing 73 million views in the first 24 hours. The album also made history as the first album by a female artist to cross 500,000 copies sold in a week.
Lisa’s success continued to soar after leaving YG Entertainment and founding her own artist management company, Lloud. Releases under her new company gained further success, with “Rockstar” debuting at number 70 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and earning her the Best K-Pop award at the 2024 MTV Awards.
Fans can now preorder ALTER-EGO: The OFFICIAL COMIC on LalisaComics.com. Lisa’s debut album Alter Ego releases on February 28 and includes hits like “Rockstar,” “New Woman,” “Moonlit Floor,” and “Born Again.”
