TOKYOPOP rarely makes license announcements—a concern frequently raised by readers—but when they do, it sparks a frenzy.

On February 15, the publisher made a surprise reveal: they have licensed the official artbook for the animated web series Alien Stage. According to TOKYOPOP, the artbook will feature world-building guides, character profiles, original concepts, behind-the-scenes stories, and exclusive illustrations. A release date has yet to be announced.

Alien Stage is a hugely popular animated web series created by VIVINOS and QMENG, with production by Studio LICO. Set in a universe where aliens have invaded Earth, the series follows a brutal reality audition program where humans must sing to survive. Often compared to The Hunger Games but with singing, Alien Stage tells its story primarily through animated music videos on YouTube, supplemented by illustrations and comic panels on VIVINOS’ X account.

The series’ popularity is evident in its viewership. Its first video, “R O U N D 1”, posted on September 7, 2022, has amassed 12 million views, captivating audiences with its characters and storytelling. “R O U N D 5” holds the highest view count at 20 million, while the most recent release, “Wiege”, reached over 3 million views within a day of its February 14 debut.

The Alien Stage artbook includes both Special and Limited Editions. The Special Edition features a Drawing Book, while the Limited Edition adds six mini posters. TOKYOPOP has not confirmed whether these editions will be available in English, but further details will be shared as they become available.
