The live-action adaptation of the manga It Takes More Than a Pretty Face to Fall in Love announced that the K-Pop girl group ILLIT will sing the theme song.
The theme song “Almond Chocolate” will be ILLIT’s first original song and releases on February 14, Valentine’s Day–the perfect day for a romantic tale. The 60-second trailer features a snippet of the song, where ILLIT’s sweet and high vocals make it a great fit for the romcom series. Pdogg and Sekai no Owari’s Nakajin composed the track.
ILLIT, a five-member group featuring Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha, formed during the survival show R U Next? ILLIT debuted under Belift, a sublabel of Hybe, on March 25, 2024, with their song “Magnetic.” The track became a viral hit, earning the group numerous accolades, including being the first debut song by a K-Pop artist to enter Billboard’s Hot 100 charts.
Asmik Ace and Robot are producing the live-action film, with Saiji Yakumo directing and Kisa Miura writing the screenplay.Kōji Endō will compose the music for the film. Taking on the lead roles are actor and singer-songwriter Ryubi Miyase as Kanato Ugo and Rinka Kumada as Sana Chiken.
Karin Anzai writes and illustrates the manga, which follows Sana Chiken, a heroine who is an enormous fan of the influencer Kanato—specifically his face—and learns he is rumored to attend her school. Sana is skeptical at first, but it turns out to be true when she finds the Kanato standing outside her locker and telling her that he’s about to be expelled if he doesn’t up the enrollment of students at the school. Being technologically incompetent, he recruits Sana to manage the school’s social media account.
Anzai serialized the series in Hakusensha’s manga magazine Hana to Yume starting in July 2020, and it currently includes 12 volumes. The story won the BookLive Award at the Tsutaya Comic Awards in 2022.
It Takes More Than a Pretty Face to Fall in Love releases in Japan on March 7. Fans can read the series in English digitally on Comikey, and Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the print version. The first volume will release on February 25.
