Squid Game was one of the biggest Netflix shows back when it premiered in 2021. The dystopian show achieved many firsts, including becoming the first non-English show to win a SAG Award.
Fans endured a long wait between Season 1 and Season 2, but Netflix aired the second season on December 26, 2024, making it the platform’s second most-watched non-English show in the platform’s history–with the top watched being Season 1. With the cliffhanger ending of Season 2, fans were dismayed and anxious that the wait would be equally long for Season 3, but luckily, that isn’t the case. Squid Game Season 3 is coming in 2025.
The mid-credits of the final episode teased a potential new game for Season 3. Aside from the iconic “Red Light Green Light” robot girl Young-hee, there’s a new companion: a boy named Chul-soo. A traffic signal in the teaser has some viewers speculating whether it signals another version of “Red Light Green Light” or a new game altogether.
Hwang Dong-hyuk created and directed Squid Game, which thrusts 456 financially desperate participants into a series of deadly children’s games where losing a game means losing their lives but winning them means winning 45.6 billion won. Season 1 follows Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who joins the games hoping to win money to cure his ill mother, where he meets his old childhood friend Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo), and new allies Ali Abdul (Anupam Tripathi) and Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon). Season 2 takes on a decidedly darker direction when Seong Gi-hun decides to return to the games but with a singular goal: to stop the games once and for all. The second season also welcomed new actors including Yim Siwan, Jo Yuri, Park Sung-hoon, and Park Gyu-young.
Sharp-eyed fans spotted Netflix Korea posting a June 27, 2025 premiere date for Season 3, but the post was quickly deleted, and the platform has neither confirmed nor denied it. One thing is certain: Season 3 will be one of the most anticipated shows this year.
Squid Game Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix. Season 3 airs later in 2025.
