The second season of Squid Game has been nominated for a Golden Globe. Yep, you read that right. Before anyone has even seen it, Season 2 has already secured a nomination.

Okay, not completely true. The wider population hasn’t had the chance to watch it before its premiere on December 26, but Netflix submitted it to the organizers before November 4, making it eligible for the Golden Globes.

Squid Game competes against heavy hitters like The Day of the Jackal, The Diplomat, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Shōgun, and Slow Horses for the title of “Best Drama Series.”

The first season of Squid Game won numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe for “Best Supporting Actor – Television,” a SAG Award for “Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series,” and a Critics’ Choice Television Award for “Best Foreign Language Series.”

Created by Hwang Dong-hyukSquid Game pits 456 players, all experiencing severe financial hardship, against each other in a series of children’s games for a chance to win 45.6 billion dollars. Unfortunately, if they lose any of the games, they don’t return home—they’re killed. In Season 1, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), an addicted gambler and divorced father, wins the game but suffers traumatic losses in the process. He vows to return and put an end to Squid Game once and for all.

Hwang confirmed the series will have three seasons. Season 2 hits Netflix on December 26. The Golden Globes ceremony will take place on January 5.
