After the successful launch of its first season, Solo Leveling is continuing to hype fans up for Season 2. In the annual Aniplex Online Fest livestream, Solo Leveling has announced that the second season, titled “Arise from the Shadow,” will premiere in January 2025.
Along with the premiere date, the series also unveiled a new key visual with protagonist Sung Jinwoo on the side while his shadows lurk behind him with Igris facing the other way. Solo Leveling‘s DNC Official account also released a horizontal version of the key visual, allowing fans to see more of the shadows to be introduced in the upcoming season.
Ahead of its second season, Solo Leveling will release a compilation film for the first season titled Solo Leveling -ReAwakening– which will also viewers a look into the first two episodes of Season 2. Episode 13 is titled “You aren’t E-Rank, are you?” and the following episode is titled “I Suppose You aren’t Aware.” A teaser trailer can be watched below.
The compilation film will first premiere in Korea on Nov. 28 with the premiere in Japan on Nov. 29.
Written originally as a webnovel by Chugong in July 2016, Solo Leveling has been adapted into several different mediums with the first being a webcomic with DUBU as the illustrator. Despite the series ending a few years ago in December 2021, Solo Leveling still remains as one of the most popular series on Korean and English platforms. The webnovel can be read online on Tapas while the webcomic can be accessed on Tapas, Tappytoon, and later Manta Comics.
Solo Leveling is set in a world where Hunters, humans who supernatural powers, must fight against monsters who emerge from portals called gates. The series focuses on Sung Jinwoo, a scrawny Hunter who has been dubbed as “the world’s weakest Hunter,” who is at the lowest of the bottom ranks. All that changes one day, when Jinwoo encounters a double dungeon that leaves him on the brink of death. But Jinwoo survives, but he is no longer the same weak E-Rank Hunter as before; he has been chosen to become a Player which will allow him to get stronger and level up with seemingly no ceiling in sight.
The anime adaptation of the hugely successful webcomic Solo Leveling kicked off on Jan. 7, 2024 with A-1 Pictures as the animation studio and Shunsuke Nakashige helming the series as the director. Hiroyuki Sawano, best known for his work in Attack on Titan, joined the series as the composer with Noboru Kimura as the series scriptwriter and Tomoko Sudo as the character designer.
