Calling all ENGENEs! Dark Moon: The Blood Altar, the webcomic based on the K-Pop group Enhypen, will receive an anime adaptation. As part of the new slate of anime announcements at the Aniplex Online Fest livestream, Dark Moon: The Blood Altar was the first series to be revealed. The anime adaptation will stream on Crunchyroll in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East and CIS.
A teaser trailer announcement was dropped but it didn’t say much about anything other than the streaming platform and the territories that it could be watched. Information about the studio, cast, staff, or release date were not revealed during the livestream.
Dark Moon: The Blood Altar is the second in a line of HYBE original series where webtoon stories are created with characters based off of members from their K-Pop groups such as BTS, TXT, LESSERAFIM, and ILLIT. The ENHYPEN-based webcomic launched in April 2021 and ran until August 2023. It has over 60 million views on WEBTOON. A separate webnovel edition was also published along with the release of the webcomic although with some differences. A prequel titled Children of Vamfield released in March 2024 and is currently ongoing.
The webcomic focuses on the classic rivalry between vampires and werewolves and began with ENHYPEN’s “Drunk-Dazed” music video that released on April 26, 2021. The synopsis is as follows:
Welcome to Riverfield, where the most popular boys at two rival schools happen to be vampires and werewolves. When a mysterious new student, Sooha, transfers to Riverfield, the rivals find themselves inexplicably drawn to her. As horrible incidents start to shake the town, the boys’ forgotten pasts slowly start to unravel… and their world turns upside down.
ENHYPEN is a seven-member boy group formed by Belift Lab via a survival competition show called I-Land. The group won Rookie of the Year in numerous award shows and has continued to see success including landing an Album Bonsang for their album “Dark Blood” at the 2024 Golden Disk Awards. ENHYPEN’s second studio album Romance: Untold released on July 12, 2024 and has peaked at number one in Korea, Japan, and France as well as number two on the US Billboard 200.
Dark Moon: The Blood Altar can be read on WEBTOON with Yen Press licensing the physical release.
