Manta Comics‘ library has just gotten a lot bigger. The webcomics platform announced it would add over 300 titles to its library. Not only will Manta be adding on to its already extensive romantasy (romance and fantasy) collection, it will add new titles to its growing assortment of action, drama, and fantasy.
Some notable titles include Solo Leveling, Villains Are Destined to Die, and Daughter of the Emperor. These three titles are also available other platforms–Solo Leveling being on both Tapas and Tappytoon, as well as both Villains are Destined to Die and Daughter of the Emperor–but all will also be available on Manta now.
That’s only the tip of the iceberg. Manta will continue adding the rest of the 300 webcomic series starting from September all the way until early next year. The brand-new fourth season of the popular Under the Oak Tree will kick things off on Sept. 3, with approximately fifty more titles to follow within the month, varying from Manta Studios, which is in charge of their in-house productions, and their partners.
In addition, Manta has also revealed that they will revamp their in-app currency system, GEMs which allows readers to purchase and permanently own series. Prior to the update, GEMs were used to purchase novels as novels were not included in the subscription, but the update will now include webcomics. Webcomic series that can only be purchased via GEMs include those that previously only had the all-ages version and now has the mature version, and titles from Manta’s external partners.
The CEO of Manta, Travis Kim, revealed the GEM update will allow readers to access a greater variety of titles, while simultaneously providing new monetization opportunities for their webcomic creators. When readers purchase works using GEMs, creators benefit directly from it. This will allow the creators “to earn more from their work and continue crafting compelling stories.”
The updated GEM system will also allow readers to curate their reading experience, where they will be able to create a personalized collection of their favorite episodes and stories on their digital shelves.
Manta launched in November 2020 and has been one of the biggest sources of romantasy webcomic series, including titles like Under the Oak Tree and I’ve Become a True Villainess. Since then, it has included other genres, such as thrillers, horror, drama, BL, and GL. Recently, Manta launched their branch of webnovels called Manta Novels in February 2024 where readers could read the source material of fan favorite webcomic adaptations like Betrayal of Dignity and Under the Oak Tree.
